In the Stars February 7-14m 2021...shining light on the astrology of the week: New Moon

It’s Super Bowl time, and my Bay area colleague Astrologer Andrea Mallis will be on the CBS Sunday Morning TV show on Sunday Feb 7th, sharing Super Bowl Sports Astrology, discussing Tampa Bay Buccaneers Quarterback Leo Tom Brady, and Kansas City Chiefs Virgo Patrick Mahomes, coaches Libra Bruce Arians and Pisces Andy Reid, and Mercury Retrograde! The show is from 7 am – 8:30 pm PST. Check your local listings. It will also appear on their web site: https://www.cbsnews.com/sunday-morning/#

Now six planets are in Aquarius tropically (or Capricorn sidereally). On Thursday the Moon joins the group to form a New Moon alignment. All of these planets form tense squares with either Uranus or Mars in Taurus. The tension in the alignments this week may result in some earthquake-like, surprising events. The energy is powerful, so harness it personally for good. You could make amazing breakthroughs, or invest it in powerful initiatives for social change.

Aquarius symbolizes new thinking, innovation, and concerns about community and social justice. The first of three Saturn-Uranus conjunctions this year will perfect on February 17th. As we move toward this exact conjunction, these mixed energies of consolidation and breaking apart become stronger. This could be evidenced in our own lives with breaking through a bad habit and changing it to a better one; or breaking out of an outgrown job and landing a new one; or working through an old fear and moving past it. The Saturn-Uranus square is this year’s highlighted planetary theme: breakthrough and consolidation with exact squares February 17th, June 10th, and December 24th. Astrologer Rick Tarnas, in his February 5th talk on the planetary energy of 2021, said that the Saturn-Uranus square offers creative structural change for wise living.

Mercury is in retrograde until February 21, a period for review, re-thinking, re-working, and re-invigorating. Remember that communication, both oral and written, can become more easily confused. So check things twice, and be gentle and forgiving with people when there are mix-ups. If things aren’t coming together, allow time for shifting perspectives to re-arrange and re-align.

Enjoy a leisurely Sunday morning, as the Moon is void of course until 12:51 pm when the Moon moves into Capricorn. It’s another good day for a weekend hike or bike ride. In the afternoon it’s time for serious football—the game of the year, and what a game it is between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If you are not into football, it’s a great afternoon for hard work and planning the week ahead.

Monday is set for accomplishment. The Capricorn Moon forms an industrious Grand Trine with the hard-working asteroid goddess of the hearth Vesta, in Virgo, and Mars and Uranus in Taurus. Set this strong energy loose with some serious goals and elbow grease.

The Capricorn Moon joins Pluto Tuesday morning, and after charging up the early morning hours with some intensity, the Moon goes void of course all day until 5:20 pm Pacific Time when it moves into Aquarius. This is a day for routine, insignificant tasks rather than meetings. Decision making will likely not be sound. We will want to reach out to a friend in the evening hours—or gather with a group of friends on a Zoom call.

On Wednesday a Moon-Mercury conjunction in Aquarius pours forth brilliant ideas. Since Mercury is retrograde, these ideas may be revelations and revisions concerning current plans. The Moon joins Saturn and Jupiter, and squares Uranus. This is an extremely activated Moon. You may be surprised by the many things you have re-thought and discovered by the end of the day.

Thursday, February 11th, we have a New Moon in Aquarius, flanked by an additional five planets in Aquarius tropically. Each of these planets is square to either Uranus or Mars in Taurus, a demanding, hard-edged fixed square. There are really seven fixed squares with these seven planets in Aquarius. There may be a number of surprises over the next few days or even weeks with this strong configuration. A Venus-Jupiter conjunction this day opens us up to expansive possibilities.

We drift into Friday on the dreams of a Pisces Moon. Retrograde Mercury and Venus conjunct, drawing out our imagination and creative thoughts. A Moon-Uranus sextile may invite a few surprises. Friday is Venus’ Day, and this one is staged for love, art, and beauty.

The dreamy, creative theme continues on Saturday. A benefic Moon-Pluto sextile grounds our far-flung thoughts and ideas. Work in your garden, paint, write poetry, or play music, and allow intuition and inspiration to be your guides.

After a restful night, we are ready for adventure on Sunday as the Moon ingresses into Aries. Mercury conjuncts Jupiter, amplifying ideas, particularly good for re-thinking things due to the retrograde Mercury. A benefic Moon-Saturn sextile can help us find practical ways to express our love on this Valentine’s Day.

The work week starts in the light of the Aries Moon that wants to get moving. The Moon makes benefic sextiles to Mercury, Jupiter, and Venus in Aquarius, offering opportunities. Independence and freedom are themes.

The Week in Short:

Monday: Industrious day for accomplishment.

Tuesday: Intense early morning. Moon VoC from 9:20 am through 5:30 pm Pacific. Stick to routine tasks.

Wednesday: Brilliant ideas and discoveries pour forth.

Thursday: Surprises, demands, and expansive possibilities.

Friday: Creative day that invites art and beauty, and the unexpected.

Saturday: Dreamy, creative day.

Sunday: Heed the call to adventure, and catch some of the many ideas you will generate.

Monday: Energetic day. Seize opportunities.

Ten Things to Do with Venus in Aquarius (February 1-24, 2021)

1. Express love and appreciation to your friends.

2. Dress more colorfully and uniquely.

3. Read a book about a notable African American in honor of Black History Month.

4. Gather with old and new friends on Zoom.

5. Explore and consider joining a new group.

6. Make a contribution to your favorite social causes.

7. Reach out to an old friend and check in.

8. Consider how you can be more engaged in your community.

9. Express more freedom and independence in relationships.

10. Think up some unusual dates—or ways to socially connect. Aquarius likes anything that is unconventional.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
