In the Stars May 8-15, 2022...shining light on the astrology of the week

Mercury turns retrograde Tuesday, May 10th until June 3rd. This is the second of three such periods this year when it is time to review, revise, re-think, and renovate. Be careful about communication and appointment, as communication can get mixed up easily. Be forgiving of mistakes and misunderstandings. While not a good time to sign contracts, it is a good time to clean up and address your email backlog and reconsider plans and goals. Make plans and appointments before Tuesday.

Jupiter moves into Aries on Tuesday, May 10th where it will be for five months until it retrogrades back into Pisces on October 28th for a couple of months, before it finally enters Aries again. Jupiter in Aries calls for adventure and expansive leaps forward.

The week ahead is in-between two eclipses, the Solar Eclipse being behind us, and the Total Lunar Eclipse ahead of us on May 15/16. At the Full Moon the luminaries are square to Saturn and Vesta, which both symbolize work and taking care of business. This is a demanding alignment. At the same time, Mars and Neptune are trine the Moon, giving vision and strong energy. In all, this eclipse next weekend is action-oriented and insistent, and could give strong results.

The creative Leo Moon squares Uranus on Mother’s Day Sunday, steering us off course from routines. The Moon makes a benefic trine to Uranus, igniting change and surprise. Do something new, different, and fun. Be yourself.

The Leo Moon opposes Saturn on Monday, drawing us into our work and responsibilities. Then the Moon is void of course for most of the day, signaling that it is best to stick to insignificant routine tasks. At 3:52 p.m. PDT the Moon ingresses into Virgo, indicating that time of the month to put our lives in better order.

Mercury turns retrograde Tuesday morning and begins its 24-day backward spin. Benefic Jupiter moves into Aries, beginning a new cycle. Leadership roles will be infused with more courage. We can take leaps forward more confidently for the next few months. Much can be accomplished with the Moon in industrious Virgo, though the trajectory may not go as planned with Uranus trine the Moon and Mercury retrograde. Navigate confusion and diversions with practical applications.

The Moon continues to shine in Virgo on this day focused on work, though its opposition to Neptune may distract us from tasks we intend to carry out. On the other hand, a Moon-Pluto trine later in the day helps us get back on track.

Thursday’s Libra Moon calls us to grace and beauty. A Mercury-Moon trine encourages kind, chatty conversations. Enjoy the relative ease of this day.

The Sun conjuncts the North Node in Taurus on Friday, encouraging us to attend to financial and environmental values and concerns. Tension is strong and divisive as a result of the Libra Moon’s opposition to Eris and square to Pluto. A Moon-Saturn trine helps us manage frustrations and emotional stress, and keeps us in conversation to work with discord and demands.

The Moon moves into Scorpio on Saturday where feelings run deep. We may want to pull back and spend some time alone. The Scorpio Moon loves to dive into a research project. The day is quiet in terms of planetary aspects; however, in light of tomorrow’s eclipse, the energy is intense. Keep things simple.

Sunday begins with a bang as the Scorpio Moon opposes Uranus. Aim to break out of your routine. Go for a new hike, or enjoy Sunday brunch at an unusual spot. The Moon is Full, perfecting at 9:13 p.m. PDT. A Venus-Chiron conjunction may correspond with feelings of vulnerability, as well as it gives the potential for healing in relationships. The day calls for strong work with the Full Moon and Sun square Saturn and Vesta. Benefic aspects include a Sun-Neptune sextile, and a Moon-Mars trine which ease tensions and give good energy. The Full Moon is an active Total Lunar Eclipse. Shadowy material may be illuminated.

After an active, demanding weekend, we are uplifted by the buoyant Sagittarius Moon. A benefic Moon-Jupiter trine makes for an invigorating, expansive, day. Be adventurous.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
