In the Stars October 4-11, 2020...shining light on the astrology of the week

Again, there is a great deal of tension and pressure from the planets this week, and for several weeks to come, and there are plenty of highly charged political and social issues expressing this energy. This week the main stage is taken by Mars and Pluto who square off exactly on Friday, October 9th, and who act out ferociously and perhaps violently, stirring up trouble from October 5th through 12th from 24 to 21 degrees of Aries/Capricorn. These planets represent the shadow, so this square offers opportunities to look at our own shadow and issues of anger and volatility.

The first presidential debate played out between the dynamic stations of Saturn and Pluto, turning direct in motion on September 29th and October 4th respectively. The Vice-Presidential debate occurs this week against the Mars-Pluto square backdrop. Unfolding before us in the coming week is the President’s case of Covid-19, along with the First Lady and numerous white house staff, congressional members, and people with whom he has come into contact. The American political climate promises to continue to be heated and contentious this week.

California still has major wildfires burning that are affecting the lives of thousands. Again, the week ahead is powerful, explosive, and transformative. Let us hope that this dynamic, combustible energy can be used for good, and let’s do all in our own power to make it so.

On a personal level we need to slow down and continue to work hard. We need to be diligent and deliberate—and patient. We need to exercise vigorously, and eat nourishing food so that we feel strong and centered. We need to steer clear of potential disputes, as the energy is hot and edgy. Though there is a proclivity to be at war this week, the Libra Sun helps to understand both sides.

Mercury is slowing down and will turn retrograde on October 14th through November 3rd, so wrap up projects and complete important communication and agreements.

Sunday quakes and rumbles, beginning with a Moon-Uranus conjunction. You may have awakening dreams, and your morning may be anything but routine. Pluto stations to go direct after five months in retrograde motion, swelling with its full power and fury. The Pluto station square to Mars and Eris, coupled with the Moon-Uranus conjunction, is explosive. Put this energy to good use tackling a big, demanding project, and go slowly and carefully. Fortunately, benefic lunar trines to Jupiter and Neptune lift and expand us in the evening.

Monday is framed for planning and accomplishment by the morning’s lunar trines to Pluto and Saturn. Get the day off to a strong start. The Moon is void of course from 11:41 a.m. through 9:03 p.m. PDT. Plan meetings and connections for the morning hours, and handle routine tasks in the afternoon.

Tuesday’s Gemini Moon draws us toward conversation and curiosity. When Gemini is strong our attention is often short, and drawn in many different directions. A Moon-Venus square may amplify our tendency to scatter our energies, but we can be effective at getting a lot of little things accomplished such as errands and checking in with siblings and neighbors. It’s a day to connect.

Wednesday (Miercoles in Spanish), Mercury’s day, is infused with Mercurial planetary energy. The Moon is still in Mercury-ruled Gemini. Uranus opposes Mercury, infusing brilliance and enabling innovative problem-solving. A Moon-Neptune opposition softens our focus and compromises clarity; however, a Moon-Mars benefic aspect enables confidence in communication.

The Moon enters Cancer on Thursday, its ruling sign where it is usually comfortable, cozy, and nurturing, as well as moody. However, Friday Mars and Pluto square off exactly, so it is hardly a time of comfort. The Cancer Moon loves to cook and nourish, so center yourself at home, and dish up some comfort food to steady yourself in the midst of the extremely stormy planetary energy and sizzling world events. If your temper flares, step back and look at your own shadow and issues of anger. Engage vigorously in a home project.

Planetary energies are explosive on Friday with Mars retrograde making an exact edgy square to Pluto. A Sun-Moon square adds to the tremendous tension. Thankfully, lunar trines to Mercury and Neptune frame the day and provide some ease in the firestorm. This overheated, aggressive day is one to go especially mindfully, slowly, and carefully. Aim to keep balanced and calm in the midst of the storm.

Saturday dawns with more volatile, aggressive planetary energy. The Moon squares Pluto, Saturn, and Mars, and these aspects occur on top of the Mars-Pluto square that perfected on Friday. Saturday morning rumbles, if not explodes, with tense energy. The Moon is void of course from 9:03 a.m. through 5:44 p.m. PDT. Put this demanding void Moon energy to work with weekend chores. Tension eases as the day wears on. At 5:44 p.m. the Moon reaches sunny Leo, and spirits lift!

Sunday is a sunny, bold day with the Moon in Leo, signaling a day for play. The Sun squares Jupiter, and as a result we will feel expansive and energized, but perhaps overextended. The Moon makes unsettling squares to Uranus and Mercury. We may feel jagged and off balance. Expect the unexpected.

Monday the Moon is void of course all day long from 7:30 a.m. through 9:56 p.m. PDT. This is a day for creative expression, as Jupiter makes a benefic sextile to visionary Neptune, and the Sun shines in Leo. It is not a day for meetings or decision making. If you can take the day off to pursuit your hobbies, do so.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
